A 2 inch manuscript dragon is reconfigured as a human-size hybrid with a map-wing. Based on the 1490 Rothschild Mahzor, on display at The MET NYC.

Assemblage on split caftan, vintage easel. 78″H x 34″W x 26″D.
Caftan worn during radiation treatment is fused with printer proofs and tear sheets of early illustrative works. Through juxtaposition, significance of the individual components is newly visioned, and also by surgical X-ray prints applied to the easel.

“JOY” in Amharic, Arabic, Hebrew and Tibetan calligraphy is commingled; an expression of commonality among cultures with histories of conflict. Torn, ripped and burnt leftover border prints reflect the custom of tearing a ribbon or garment as an expression of loss.

Assemblage, 42H” x 29W”. Vintage WWII newspaper fragments in a Raoul Wallenberg Shutz-Pass format with my war related earlier print images and treatment of an 1173 letter signed by the medieval sage, Maimonides, scribed to aid captives of the Crusades.
